Man, I watched Zheng Jie battle it out with Serena Williams and I rooted for her all the way. I fully expected Serena to win but silently, I was hoping Zheng Jie could pull off a MAJOR upset and head to the final. Williams took the first set without much fuss as Zheng Jie struggled to find any kind of rythm against the raw, brute power of Serena. It wasn’t looking like it was going to be another underdog upset until the rain came and the match had to be suspended. It was a lucky break for Zheng Jie for during the suspension, she managed to regroup and when play resumed, she hit excellent shots and took Williams to 5-5 in the 2nd set. She was 40-30 going into the 11th game of the 2nd set when the heavens dropped its tears again, this time heavier than before. It took a good hour or so before play resumed for the second time. I was watching some other channel and forgot about the match until it ran through my mind that the match may have been resumed by then. How right I was. I missed the 11th and 12th game so I when I switched to Star Sports, Serena was already 2 points up in the tie-break. Zheng, with her tenacious approach to her game, took Serena to the edge and soon the score read 5-6. Zheng Jie just needed to serve well in her next two games to take the set. I,along with thousands, perhaps millions of other Chinese watching, held my breath as Zheng served. She bounced the ball, geared up for her serve, tossed the ball in the air and hit the ball. FAULT!! 2nd serve. Then she bounced, tossed and smacked again!!!! Alas, FAULT!!! OH NO! Zheng served her first double-fault of the match and lost…… I felt so sorry for her. No doubt Serena was the deserved winner but Zheng could have taken her to the 3rd set and.. who knows?? She might’ve been able to pull off another trick out of her hat. The match itself was tremendous, with Serena serving powerfully(16 aces,I think) and Zheng showing incredible fighting spirit. The only annoyance in the match was trhe commentary. The American woman, who pronounced Zheng Jie as “Tsng Jee” instead of “Tsng Jyeah” despite her saying how her name should be pronounced during her interview after her win over Nicole Vaidisova. Bloody Ignorant American(not saying that all of you are).
Anyway,
CONGRATULATIONS ZHENG JIE!!! WE ASIANS ARE SO PROUD OF YOU!!! COME AGAIN NEXT YEAR AND BEAT ALL THE RUSSIANS AND AMERICANS STANDING IN YOUR WAY!!
In other news, I hope United sell Cristiano. As much as I’d love him to stay and help United, we have to accept that he thinks he’s done more than enough for us and wants to go on to other things. If we really love him and if he really wants to live his dream and go to Real Madrid, the club shouldn’t stand in his way. Besides, the money we’d make would be enough to buy us 5 future Ronaldoes(if we can get £60 million from his sale,Ronaldo cost us “only” £12 million)
As much as I love the guy as a player(I mean he IS the world’s greatest player right now, really. Which winger playing in top flight football can score 42 n a season, tell me?But don’t say he’s a better goalsorer then Ruud because that’s a lie!! Ruud was the greatest United striker of the millenium)I really cannot stand his pathetic theatrics, lack of integrity and the dives and all. A United fan through and through I might be,but I’m primarily a football fan and I simply do not support dives and simulation. If he can quit the drama and keep doing what he’s been doing(not the dives), I think people will respect and admire him more despite which club they support.
So I think United should sell him and buy Berbatov/Santa Cruz + A new defender.
AND FINALLY,PRESENTING THE GREATEST GOALSCORER EVER,
RUUD VAN NISTELROOY!!!!!!!!!!!!
